The Base Opens at Kellyville Private Hospital

On Friday 18 July, Kellyville Private Hospital proudly marked a significant milestone with the official opening of The Base—a purpose-built mental health ward designed to support first responders, veterans, and defence personnel facing challenges such as PTSD, addiction, and other mental health conditions.

The launch event was attended by distinguished guests including the Hon. Peter Primrose, Robyn Preston MP, Mark Hodges MP, and Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne, who joined Aurora Healthcare Australia Acting CEO Daria Simic and CEO Erin Ash to formally open the ward.

The Base is more than just a new facility—it’s a safe, trauma-informed environment where individuals who have served our communities and country can access timely, comprehensive, and compassionate care. The Base features predominantly private rooms with ensuite and offers a three-week inpatient program focused on trauma recovery, alongside a 12-week outpatient day program to support ongoing healing and reintegration into daily life

The inpatient program blends trauma-focused therapy and psychoeducation, helping participants:

  • Understand the impact of trauma on daily life
  • Learn techniques to manage flashbacks and emotional regulation
  • Develop self-soothing strategies and resilience
  • Prepare for long-term recovery with tailored support plans

The outpatient Trauma Skills Day Program, delivered weekly in a closed group setting, incorporates CBT and DBT and is available both in-person and virtually—ensuring accessibility for those living regionally or unable to attend onsite.

A heartfelt thank you to our guest speakers who courageously shared their personal journeys of recovery, reminding us of the profound impact of compassionate mental health care. Their stories reinforce why The Base exists: to provide hope, healing, and a pathway forward for those who’ve given so much.
