When Care and Compassion are in the DNA

From a young age, Lauren, a Registered Nurse at Kellyville Private Hospital, knew she wanted a career where she could make a difference in people’s lives, just like her mum, Bec. While growing up, she didn’t always fully understand what her mum’s role involved, but she clearly remembers the dedication, care and professionalism she brought to work each day, giving Lauren a unique insight into the world of healthcare.

Lauren says those early experiences played a significant role in her decision to pursue a career in healthcare, ultimately leading her to Kellyville Private Hospital.

“It wasn’t just about following in her footsteps — it was about wanting to contribute to the same environment I’d seen her help shape, one that values people, teamwork and making a difference,” Lauren recalls.

Although Lauren and Bec work in different roles within the hospital, they share a strong understanding of the workplace and the pressures that can come with it.

“We’re able to support each other in a unique way, while still maintaining professionalism and respecting each other’s boundaries at work,” Lauren says.

“It’s comforting knowing she’s part of the same environment, and that we’re both contributing to the same goal of supporting patient care, just in different ways.”

For Bec, seeing her daughter pursue a career in healthcare is a source of immense pride.

“It’s incredibly special to see her share that same passion for helping others and making a positive impact,” she says.

“Watching her grow into her own career as a registered nurse, while carrying forward those values of compassion and care, is both humbling and inspiring as a mother.”

On a personal level, Lauren says it is her mum’s work ethic and determination that have shaped the person she has become.

“She’s taught me resilience, especially during challenging times, and the importance of showing up for people even when it’s not easy,” Lauren says.

“She’s taught me to stay grounded, work hard and approach challenges with a positive mindset.

“She doesn’t seek recognition, but she consistently gives her best and that’s something I’ve tried to carry into my own life and career.”

Together, Lauren and Bec represent more than a shared workplace, they represent the passing of values from one generation to the next. Through compassion, resilience and care for others, both are helping support people through some of life’s most difficult moments.
